If you’re a first time expecting parents, you’re probably wondering when should you book your newborn session. And my answer to you is… “it depends…”
You should book your newborn session within the first two weeks of birth if you want to document you baby at their tiniest. As babies often go through a growth spurt when they’re around 2 weeks old.
If you are a first time parents, you might not know that all newborn babies drop weight after birth due for various reasons. If you want to give your baby time to gain back their birth weight [and maybe then some] then you will want to newborn session when your baby is 3 or 4 weeks old. Plus, this will provide more time to adjust into this new chapter of life.
For Avery’s newborn session, her parents opt to have her newborn session when she was about one month old. She was still pretty sleepy and cuddly at one month. She had moments of wakefulness, which was so much fun to document. Newborn babies make the silliest faces! Waiting for her to turn one weeks old also allowed time for Avery’s cheeks to fill out and her wrist rolls to take form. You could tell that they settling into their new chapter of their lives as a family of three. I’m so happy to be able to capture them at this time in life!
My style of newborn photography is similar to my other family session and leans on simple posing and family connection. Which provides more flexibility when it comes to the timing of your newborn session. It is truly up to your preference!
