I recently had the opportunity to photograph Kate and her girls in their family garden. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably caught on that gardening is one of my favorite summertime pastimes, so this session was a really fun one for me to photograph. It’s not often that I get to combine a few of my favorite things, motherhood, gardening and photography!
We started the session with Kate and the girls in their backyard. Kate is also Colorado family photographer, and you can check out her work at Sunshine Lady Photophotography. Kate had the cutest sunflowers dispersed all over their family garden. The sunflowers definite added cheer to their family garden, and their personality shined through!
Although I love a good mountain session, I can see in-home sessions quickly becoming one of my favorite types of sessions. I love how these types of sessions tells a story about a family’s everyday life. The thought that when Kate’s girls grow up… They’ll be able to say things like… “Remember all of those beautiful sunflowers that mom grow used to grow?” Or “Remember how sweet those peas and tomatoes tasted that we plucked out of our garden”. Or “remember the light would spill over our front yard during the evening?” And they’ll have these tangible memories that will bring them back to all those remember when moments… Maybe I am romanizing this a bit too much… but just that glimmer of the possibility that these portrait sessions can do that for Kate and her girls is why I love being a family photographer!
